Tasks
| Title | 1. Read the article by Marie Nixon in Imaging & Therapy Practice |
| Description | Nixon M (2017), 'IVC filter removal', Imaging & Therapy Practice, (August) pp12 |
| Title | 2. Consider if this article has given you a better understanding of why IVC filters should be removed when no longer required |
| Description | If so, how? |
| Title | 3. A patient has an extensive DVT and due to a history of falls, would you place an IVC filter or start anticoagulation therapy? |
| Description | What would the patient be of increased risk of with anticoagulation therapy? A falls patient would be at increased risk of haemorrhage if put on anti-coagulation therapy, therefore, IVC filter should be employed. |
| Title | 4. Reflect on what you’ve learned from this plan in CPD Now |
| Description | Use the prompts within CPD Now or another reflective model. Upload your answers to the questions as evidence.
I have a greater understanding of IVC filter usage. I am mainly involved in vascular ultrasound, a good proportion of which is scanning for DVT. Our unit treats ileo-femoral DVT aggressively with thrombolysis or mechanical clot removal in iliac DVTs in selected cases, part of protocol obviously includes IVC filter placement. |
| Title | 5. Set a review date for this plan |
| Description | Put a note in your calendar to review this plan and your action plan progress in 12 months. Add to the reflection at this time.
Will also check on our follow ups of ileo-femoral DVTs. Review date set for 30/04/2019. |
